Late Anand Shankar Madhavan, a visionary and legendary luminar sacrificed and dedicated his whole life to the cause of social service and promotion of ideal and quality education for the younger generation. Being non-Hindi speaking from Kerala, he choose to remain in this remote place with rural surroundings at the foot of Mandar Hills. With a view to propagate Hindi language among the masses, he established Mandar Vidhyapith in 1945 and later on founded Adwaita Mission in 1990. Madhavan a product of Jamia Milia, an old pupil, and a devout disciple of late Dr. Zakir Hussain was a staunch nationalist, a greate freedom fighter, a true Gandhian, a philanthropist and social worker. A man of simple living, but high thinking, he was a literary figure, a man of academic repute, a thinker and writer par excellence with philosophical instincts. He wrote more than 55 books on varied subjects viz literature, culture, education, religion etc. He had a keen desire to start a Teachers' Training College. Though his dream could not materialise during his life-time his ideas, ideals and innovative inspirations are very much alive which guide and lead us to the path of progress. The entire campus vibrates and rejuvenates with the spirit of this pious and benevolent soule.
• The Govt. of Bihar gives monthly literary pension to the most eminent writers of Bihar. Anand Shankar Madhavan is one of them who received this monthly pension.
• Four times he received prizes from the State Govt. for his outstanding literary contributions towards cause of the Hindu-Muslim unity, communal harmony, national integration and general awakening of the masses.
• Several students have been awarded Ph.D. degree for doing research work on Madhvan’s writing and many more are actively engaged in research pursuits on his creative work.
• He received the most coveted prize for his outstanding literary contribution from the Kerala Hindi Sahitya Academy, Thiruvananthapuram and also from the International Art and literary Association, Nizamabad (U.P)

Gandhiji advised him to study the country and for this he asked him to tour all over the country on foot. And so he walked. • Came to Bihar. The Quit India Movement was started. • He joined the 1942 Quit India Movement. He was arrested and kept in Bhagalpur Central Jail for months together. • He was released. • Then he started the Mandar Vidyapith on the eastern foot of
the Mandar Hill in a ruined temple in the District of Bhagalpur. • Dr. Rajendra Prasad visited the Mandar Vidyapith in 1946. • Gandhiji wrote “ The Mandar Vidyapith is a greate scheme indeed, • I am anxious to see it worked out...". Dr. Zakir Hussain visited the Mandar Vidyapith several times. He was immensely happy. |

: Mandar Vidyapith is a prominent and a promising educational institution of India today. Shiv Dham High School was started in the year 1984 where Santhal Tribals, Paharias and other downtrodden are given free education. Adwaita Mission High School was started in 1990. It was affiliated to CBSE in the year 2000 and upgraded to Senior Secondary level in 2001 with Science, Commerce and Arts streams. At present 1600 students are studying in this institution. He dreamt of the Teacher’s Training College to be run in the campus and the dream got translated . Adwaita Mission Training College with an intake of 100 students both girls and boys is running. |

: Being a non Hindi speaking from South India, Madhavan studied Hindi and wrote more than sixty books by now and wrote numerous articles in Hindi in various periodicals. |
